Have you ever wondered why you have louvered registers located on the wall, usually one near the floor and one near the ceiling, in most rooms of your home?

The reason is for cooling/heating efficiency. In the summer, you should close the lower register and open the upper register. The HVAC system needs to take in air to cool and re-distribute throughout the house. It's more efficient to take the warm air, located near the ceiling, and cool it. In the winter, you want to close the upper vent and open the lower so that it can pull in the cold air and heat it. Make sense?
